A FEW SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS PUSHED INTO NORTHWEST AND WEST CENTRAL IOWA AFTER MIDNIGHT. RAINFALL HAD BEEN QUITE LIGHT. TEMPERATURES AROUND THE STATE THIS MORNING WERE IN THE 60S TO LOWER 70S. WINDS WERE SOUTH AT 5 TO 10 MPH OVER MUCH OF THE STATE. THE EXCEPTION WAS OVER THE FAR NORTHWEST...WHERE THEY HAD SHIFTED TO THE NORTH TO NORTHEAST AT 10 TO 15 MPH. A COLD FRONT EXTENDED FROM LAKE SUPERIOR...THROUGH NORTHWEST IOWA...INTO SOUTHWEST KANSAS. THE FRONT WILL PROGRESS SLOWLY SOUTHEAST ACROSS IOWA TO DAY AND TONIGHT...AND PASS SOUTHEAST OF THE REGION THURSDAY. HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD IN BEHIND THE FRONT FRIDAY IN TO THE WEEKEND. A BAND OF SHOWERS ALONG AND BEHIND THE COLD FRONT WILL BECOME MORE WIDESPREAD TODAY AND THEN MOVE SOUTHEAST WITH THE FRONT. WIDESPREAD RAINFALL IS LIKELY ACROSS MUCH OF THE UPPER MIDWEST OVER THE NEXT 24 TO 48 HOURS. TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN WELL ABOVE NORMAL AHEAD OF THE FRONT AGAIN TODAY WITH 80S TO LOW 90S OVER SOUTHEAST IOWA AND AREAS SOUTHEAST. BEHIND THE FRONT HIGHS WILL BE IN THE 60S AND 70S. HIGH PRESSURE BUILDING INTO THE REGION FOR THE WEEKEND WILL BRING SEASONABLY COOL WEATHER TO THE UPPER MIDWEST. HIGHS ARE EXPECTED TO BE IN THE 70S WITH LOWS IN THE 40S AND 50S. $$
