THE RAIN HAS ENDED OVER WESTERN IOWA WHERE ONLY SOME LOW LEVEL CLOUDS AND FOG HAVE DEVELOPED. WIDESPREAD SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUED TO AFFECT PORTIONS OF CENTRAL IOWA AND MUCH OF THE EASTERN PORTION OF THE STATE LATE THIS AFTERNOON. RAINFALL AMOUNTS GENERALLY RANGED FROM A QUARTER TO THREE QUARTERS OF INCH WITH SOME LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS RANGING NEAR 1.5 INCHES. TEMPERATURES REMAINED STEADY IN THE MIDDLE 60S TO AROUND 70 THROUGHOUT THE MAJORITY OF IOWA...WITH A FEW SPOTS ACROSS THE FAR SOUTHWEST REACHING NEAR 80 WHERE THE CLOUD COVER CLEARED OUT THIS AFTERNOON AND ALLOWED TEMPERATURES TO JUMP. AT 3 PM CDT...THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE WAS 81 DEGREES LOCATED IN SHENANDOAH IOWA. SCATTERED SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS WILL SLOWLY TAPER OFF ACROSS EASTERN IOWA THIS EVENING. AREAS OF DENSE FOG ARE FORECAST TO DEVELOP LATE THIS EVENING AND INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. VISIBILITY RESTRICTIONS OF LESS THAN A MILE CAN BE EXPECTED IN SOME AREAS ACROSS WESTERN IOWA PAST MIDNIGHT TONIGHT. UNSEASONABLY HOT AND HUMID CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY OVER THE REGION. THE HOTTEST DAY WILL BE ON THURSDAY WHERE HIGH TEMPERATURES ARE LIKELY TO RISE INTO THE MIDDLE AND UPPER 90S. HEAT INDEX READINGS WILL TOP 100 DEGREES BY THURSDAY AFTERNOON OVER MUCH OF CENTRAL IOWA. A COLD FRONT IS FORECAST TO PUSH ACROSS THE REGION BY FRIDAY BRINGING CHANCES OF THUNDERSTORMS FRIDAY NIGHT AND COOLER TEMPERATURE BY SATURDAY. $$ KLP
