AT 3 PM CDT...TEMPERATURES RANGED IN THE UPPER 80S TO THE LOWER 90S WITH HEAT INDEX READINGS RANGING NEAR 100 DEGREES IN SOME AREAS. A COLD FRONT AND ASSOCIATED LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM TRIGGERED STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER CENTRAL MINNESOTA LATE THIS AFTERNOON. OTHERWISE...MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES WITH BREEZY SOUTHERLY WINDS PREVAILED ACROSS IOWA. STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE FORECAST TO DEVELOP ACROSS NORTHWEST IOWA AND SPREAD EAST ACROSS MUCH OF THE STATE THIS EVENING. THE STRONGEST STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING SEVERE WEATHER WHERE LARGE HAIL...DAMAGING WINDS...AND EVEN ISOLATED TORNADOES ARE POSSIBLE. LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN IS EXPECTED LATER TONIGHT ACROSS CENTRAL IOWA AND MAY LEAD TO AREAS OF FLASH FLOODING. THE ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN IS FORECAST TO CONTINUE AS A SERIES OF UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCES WILL MOVE ACROSS THE REGION AND PROVIDE CHANCES OF THUNDERSTORMS FRIDAY INTO MONDAY. $$ KLP
