LAND MANAGEMENT FORECAST FOR NORTHWEST OREGON AND SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OREGON
845 AM PDT TUE OCT 21 2003

...RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES TODAY...

...BREEZY TO LOCALLY WINDY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...
MAIN JET STREAM NORTH REMAINS TO THE NORTH TODAY WITH UNSEASONABLY
WARM TEMPERATURES OVER THE DISTRICT. SOME RECORD HIGHS ARE POSSIBLE
ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CASCADES. A COLD FRONT IS EXPECTED TO MOVE
ONTO THE COAST WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THEN CROSS THE CASCADES DURING
THE EVENING. EXPECT BREEZY CONDITIONS...EXCEPT LOCALLY WINDY THROUGH
THE GORGE...OVER THE CASACDES...AND EAST SLOPES OF THE CASACDES. A
MUCH COOLER AIR MASS SETTLES OVER THE REGION THURSDAY. LONGER
RANGE COMPUTER CHARTS SHOW AN OFFSHORE PATTERN SETTING UP FRIDAY
...PERSISTING THROUGH THE WEEKEND. THIS WILL GIVE CLEARING
CONDITIONS TO THE COAST...COAST RANGE AND CASCADES...BUT VALLEY
INVERSIONS COULD BE QUITE PERSISTENT...ESPECIALLY AWAY FROM THE
COLUMBIA GORGE. THIS MAY ALLOW FOR MORNING FOG TO PERSIST INTO THE
AFTERNOON OVER THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN WILLAMETTE VALLEY.

FORECAST WINDS ARE 10 MINUTE AVERAGES 20 FT ABOVE VEGETATION.
