000 AWUS84 KTSA 051453 AWSTUL EASTERN OKLAHOMA/NORTHWEST ARKANSAS WEATHER SUMMARY NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TULSA OK 955 AM CDT SUN MAY 5 2002 TEMPERATURES EARLY THIS MORNING RANGED FROM THE MID 40S IN A FEW AREAS ACROSS EXTREME NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA AND NORTHWEST ARKANSAS...INTO THE MID AND UPPER 50S IN MOST OTHER LOCATIONS. A LARGE AREA OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS HAD DEVELOPED OVERNIGHT IN NORTHEAST TEXAS. WEAKENING STORMS CROSSED THE RED RIVER INTO SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA BETWEEN 5 AND 7 AM. RAINFALL AMOUNTS RANGED FROM SIX HUNDREDTHS OF AN INCH IN SOUTHEAST PUSHMATAHA COUNTY...TO A QUARTER OF AN INCH ACROSS SOUTHEASTERN MCCURTAIN COUNTY. THROUGHOUT THE REMAINDER OF THE REGION...SKIES WERE PARTLY CLOUDY...WITH A LIGHT SOUTHEAST WIND. BY MID MORNING...DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A RAPIDLY WEAKENING AREA OF SHOWERS LINGERING ACROSS NORTHEAST TEXAS AND EXTREME SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA...MOVING INTO SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS. SKIES ACROSS MOST OF THE REGION REMAINED PARTLY CLOUDY...WITH INCREASING WINDS FROM THE SOUTH SOUTHEAST AT 10 TO 15 MPH. THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP IN THE OKLAHOMA AND TEXAS PANHANDLES THIS AFTERNOON...POSSIBLY MOVING INTO THE EASTERN PART OF THE STATE LATER TONIGHT. ONLY A SLIGHT CHANCE EXISTS THAT THE SHOWERS AND STORMS WILL REACH NORTHWEST ARKANSAS BY LATE TONIGHT. $$
