999 FXUS63 KAPX 100312 AFDAPN AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GAYLORD MI 1012 PM EST TUE MAR 9 1999 CURRENT SURFACE ANALYSIS INDICATED A WEAKENING LOW CENTERED OVER WEST VIRGINIA. HIGH PRESSURE WAS CENTERED OVER HUDSON BAY. THE LOW WILL CONTINUE TO WEAKEN OVERNIGHT AS ENERGY IS TRANSFERRED TO ANOTHER LOW DEVELOPING ALONG THE CAROLINA COAST. THE HIGH WILL CONTINUE BUILDING INTO THE NORTHERN GREAT LAKES REGION. ALOFT...THE REMNANTS OF AN UPPER LOW WILL TRACK ACROSS THE REGION WHILE THE MAIN VORTICITY CENTER PASSES SOUTHWEST OF THE FORECAST AREA. THE MAIN FORECAST CONCERN OVERNIGHT WILL BE CLOUD COVER AND ITS IMPACT ON LOW TEMPERATURES. CURRENT SATELLITE IMAGERY AND SURFACE OBSERVATIONS SHOW EXTENSIVE HIGH/MID LEVEL CLOUDINESS STILL COVERING THE FORECAST AREA. NORTHEAST WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO ADVECT DRIER AIR ACROSS THE REGION OVERNIGHT...PARTICULARLY ACROSS EASTERN UPPER AND NORTHEAST LOWER. ACROSS EASTERN UPPER...EXPECT MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES WILL PERSIST INTO THE EARLY MORNING HOURS...WITH DECREASING CLOUDINESS THEREAFTER. MOISTURE WILL BE A LITTLE SLOWER TO DIMINISH ACROSS NORTHERN LOWER WHERE MAINLY HIGH/MID LEVEL CLOUDINESS WILL KEEP SKIES MOSTLY CLOUDY OVERNIGHT AS THE REMNANTS OF THE UPPER LOW DRIFT ACROSS THE REGION. GOING TEMPERATURE FORECASTS GENERALLY APPEAR ON TARGET AND WILL ONLY MAKE MINOR ADJUSTMENTS. NORCROSS
