AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GAYLORD MI
1012 PM EST TUE MAR 9 1999

CURRENT SURFACE ANALYSIS INDICATED A WEAKENING LOW CENTERED OVER WEST
VIRGINIA. HIGH PRESSURE WAS CENTERED OVER HUDSON BAY. THE LOW WILL
CONTINUE TO WEAKEN OVERNIGHT AS ENERGY IS TRANSFERRED TO ANOTHER LOW
DEVELOPING ALONG THE CAROLINA COAST. THE HIGH WILL CONTINUE BUILDING
INTO THE NORTHERN GREAT LAKES REGION. ALOFT...THE REMNANTS OF AN UPPER
LOW WILL TRACK ACROSS THE REGION WHILE THE MAIN VORTICITY CENTER PASSES
SOUTHWEST OF THE FORECAST AREA.

THE MAIN FORECAST CONCERN OVERNIGHT WILL BE CLOUD COVER AND ITS IMPACT
ON LOW TEMPERATURES. CURRENT SATELLITE IMAGERY AND SURFACE OBSERVATIONS
SHOW EXTENSIVE HIGH/MID LEVEL CLOUDINESS STILL COVERING THE FORECAST
AREA. NORTHEAST WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO ADVECT DRIER AIR ACROSS THE
REGION OVERNIGHT...PARTICULARLY ACROSS EASTERN UPPER AND NORTHEAST
LOWER. ACROSS EASTERN UPPER...EXPECT MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES WILL PERSIST
INTO THE EARLY MORNING HOURS...WITH DECREASING CLOUDINESS THEREAFTER.
MOISTURE WILL BE A LITTLE SLOWER TO DIMINISH ACROSS NORTHERN LOWER WHERE
MAINLY HIGH/MID LEVEL CLOUDINESS WILL KEEP SKIES MOSTLY CLOUDY
OVERNIGHT AS THE REMNANTS OF THE UPPER LOW DRIFT ACROSS THE REGION.

GOING TEMPERATURE FORECASTS GENERALLY APPEAR ON TARGET AND WILL ONLY
MAKE MINOR ADJUSTMENTS.
