Predicting Next Two Months

Posted: 21 Apr 2022 05:30 AM

After a close to average March, the month of April has been rather chilly compared with climatology. Most Iowans are desperate for warmer weather and some semblance of nice spring weather prior to the arrival of full blown summer! The featured chart looks into if the average temperature during March and April is a good prediction of happens during the following May and June. The combination of both is plotted along with dividing the population up into quadrants based on the averages of the two datasets. While there is a slightly positive correlation with warm March/April associated with warmer May/Junes, the relationship is not all that strong. The largest quadrant population does unfortunately show up with the below average for both, which we can hopefully avoid adding to this year!
