Even with the Iowa State Fair now over and school starting, summer time heat is in full force this week with much of southern Iowa under a Heat Advisory for Tuesday. The featured chart presents some metrics for the Heat Advisory NWS product for Iowa with the main panel showing the time domain each year between the first and last event. The side panels present the yearly totals with the events value doing some double accounting due to how the various NWS offices that cover Iowa issue alerts. Anyway, with data back to 2006, having an alert on the 24th of August is nothing out of the ordinary and hopefully nearing the end of the period we would expect to see such alerts each year.
