April Wind Speeds

Posted: 01 Apr 2020 04:07 AM

Somehow we have made it to the first day of April and thus fully into the spring season. The spring season being a battle between cool and warm air masses means that the winds tend to be higher than other months of the year. The good news for April is that the trend is slightly downward for the month as shown by the featured chart which decomposes April average hourly wind speeds for Des Moines by ten day periods of the month. The plot shows not much difference for the first twenty days of the month with a 10% or so decrease by the end of the month. The last two days of March featured remarkable weather with not much wind, April will start off windy.
