Widespread First Frost/Freeze
Posted: 14 Oct 2019 05:33 AM
The featured map displays an analysis of minimum hourly NCEP high resolution temperatures since
last Thursday. A significant portion of the upper Midwestern US experienced its first sub freezing
temperature of this fall season. This analysis has only a small sliver of far southeastern Iowa not
breaching 32 degrees. Maps like this one also routinely show the moderating effects of the Great
Lakes. Locations near the lakes and downwind will benefit with warmer near surface air
temperatures this time of year.
