Interesting Cloud Motion
Posted:
Thunderstorms fired with the heating of the day on Thursday over southern Iowa and
created for a remarkable presentation on satellite imagery. The featured lapse is of "true
color" GOES-16 composite, which is a combination of three satellite bands that generate a
pseudo image like that you may see from space with the human eye. What's interesting is
that you can discern the lower level cloud motion to the west and the upper level cloud
motion to the east. So the thunderstorms that fired ended up getting ripped apart and
ultimately died with the loss of peak heating during the late afternoon hours.
