Didn't beat -64

Posted: 31 Jan 2019 05:27 AM

Wind chill temperatures on Wednesday were extremely cold, but likely failed to reach the statewide record level. Long term wind chill data does not exist and there are caveats galore with the value, but Waterloo is often credited with having the coldest wind chill on record in the state of -64 degrees back on 24 December 1983. The featured chart shows IEM computed hourly records for the site. The most recent event was able to set or tie two hourly records at -55 degrees. While the wind has died down for Thursday, extremely cold temperatures still exist this morning with record lows being set.
