The temperature pattern over the state on Monday was inverted from what one may expect to see with the warmest temperatures in northeastern Iowa and the coldest temperatures in southwestern Iowa. This was thanks to a cloud shield and rain impacting southwestern Iowa and other parts of the state able to see some sunshine. While the high temperature for Decorah (NE Iowa) was 68, the high for Shenandoah (SE Iowa) was 55. The featured chart presents the daily frequencies of having the high at Decorah 10+ degrees warmer than Shenandoah. This situation is somewhat rare with an overall frequency around 1%, which would equate to about 3 days per year. April and May are certainly the favored months for this to happen.
