GDD deficit for 1 May to 20 Aug 2004.
The IEM currently estimates that we are around 170 growing degree day units behind normal this year since 1 May. This is an unrecoverable deficit. Lets do some math! We are currently averaging 20 GDD units per day. One scenario to make up this deficit would be to average +10 GDD per day for the next 17 days. This would equate to an average high temperature of 90 and low temperature of 70. That scenario won't happen and it is probably too late to do any good for this year's crop.
