Clipped by a MCS
Posted: 28 Apr 2003 08:27 AM
Midwest composite NEXRAD shows a bubble of rainfall just clipping southern Iowa and a stratiform band of rainfall in Central Iowa. That blob in Missouri is called a Mesoscale Convective System (MCS) and like most teenagers, they live at night. MCS's bring Iowa a majority of its rainfall for the year during the night.
