ALERT ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
SOUTHERN REGION HEADQUARTERS
1012 AM CST SUN NOV 17 2013

TO: ALL SR OFFICES

FROM: SR REGIONAL OPERATIONS CENTER

RE: COMMUNICATIONS UPDATE

THE TOC CONTINUES TO WORK THE LARGE-SCALE COMMUNICATION OUTAGES THIS
MORNING...BUT IS PRIORITIZING OFFICES IN THE HIGH AND MODERATE RISK
AREAS FIRST. NO NEW INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE FROM THEM ON THE STATUS
OF NWSCHAT BEYOND "SUSPICIOUS TRAFFIC" ON ONE OF NOAA'S INTERNET
CIRCUITS. THEY ARE WORKING WITH THE SERVICE PROVIDER TO ASSESS.

AS A REMINDER...NWSCHAT DOES WORK FROM COMPUTERS/DEVICES OUTSIDE OF
OPSNET. IF YOU HAVE A MIFI OR NON-OPSNET PC IN YOUR OFFICE...WE
SUGGEST YOU USE THAT TO ACCESS NWSCHAT.

AS FAR AS NDFD/RSYNC ISSUES ARE CONCERNED...WE ARE ASKING THAT
OFFICES ATTEMPT TO SEND GRIDS TO THE NDFD SERVER AT THIS TIME. WE
HAVE SRH PERSONNEL LOOKING INTO THAT PROBLEM (ALTHOUGH THIS IS ALSO
A NATIONAL PROBLEM) AND HOPE TO HAVE A FIX IN PLACE FOR SR OFFICES
TO SEND GRIDS. WE ARE AWARE OF THE SUBSEQUENT POINT AND CLICK
FORECAST ISSUES AND HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE TOC THAT AFTER 18HRS OF
MISSING DATA...THE WEB PAGES WILL REVERT BACK TO THE ZFP WORDING.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUING PATIENCE ON THESE MATTERS.
