Gravity wave fun

27 Feb 2009 06:14 AM
It was a wild weather day on Thursday with rain, sleet, freezing rain, snow, and hail reported in Iowa. The featured graph is a timeseries from the Wall Lake SchoolNet site showing what appears to be a gravity wave signature. The oscillation of wind direction and pressure is indicative of the changes as the wave crests and troughs pass by the station.

Gravity wave

11 Apr 2005 07:24 AM
It would appear that a gravity wave transversed the state late Sunday afternoon based on the plot shown and a number of sites reporting dramatic pressure falls. The featured plot maps 1 hour pressure falls with NEXRAD reflectivity at 8:10 PM Sunday night. Notice the area of pressure falls (red) and rises (blue) behind the line of low reflectivities. If you have any comments about this, please let us know.
