Severe weather appears to be likely today as a powerful storm system rapidly strengthens and plows east overnight. Severe Thunderstorm Warnings would appear to be likely with this event, but the calendar is well into November so one wonders if we have had such warnings this late into the year. The featured chart displays the period of days each year between the first and last Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by the NWS in Des Moines. With data back to 1986, there have been a number of years with warnings into November and even December.
