Area Forecast Discussion

.Short term...
TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT...Latest satellite imagery shows
the broad band of clouds associated with the monsoon trough to
the North through East of the territory. As the atmosphere is
still slightly unstable due to the closeness of the trough,
towering cumuli are seen streaming near the islands. Latest model
data show a trough forming close to Manu'a and bringing an uptick
in showers and clouds Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday.
Moderate to fresh northwesterlies will remain through Tuesday
night then become more light and variable thereafter.

.Long term...
THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY...Current model data show the
aforementioned trough still lingering near the territory through
the long term, with the moisture concentrated more to the East and
North of Manu'a, with the possibility of some rain bands moving
across the islands. Hence, will maintain previous forecast for the
long term of scattered showers and variable winds.

&&

.Marine...
Current model data show seas on a downward trend through the
week. Heights are forecast to fall below advisory criteria by at
least Thursday. However, we will continue to monitor as a long
period northwest swell is anticipated to reach coastal waters
Wednesday. Furthermore, fresh northwesterlies will remain across
the area through at least Tuesday night then become more light and
variable toward the latter part of the week. Hence, the advisories
for small crafts and high surfs will remain through at least
midweek due to winds and seas, with the possibility of extending
them further if the aforementioned northwest swell maintain
heights above advisory criteria.
