Back above 50

Posted: 18 May 2016 04:31 AM

Our recent patch of cloudy and chilly weather pushed average soil temperatures back below the critical 50 degree level for some locations in the state. The featured chart presents the daily range and average four inch depth soil temperature as measured by the ISU Soil Moisture station at Doon (Sutherland, NW Iowa). A bit warmer weather and some sunshine has helped recover that level. Air temperatures are again a bit chilly this morning with some patchy frost likely found over extreme NE Iowa.
