Rainfall totals over 5 inches were observed in NW Iowa last night. This area of rainfall was enhanced by a warm and moist stream of air about 1-2 km above the surface called the Low Level Jet (LLJ). The LLJ was extremely strong last night and continually feed the storms in Northern Iowa with fuel. The LLJ allows the storms to stay nearly stationary and still survive.
