The National Weather Service in San Francisco has issued a Red Flag Warning...WHICH IS IN EFFECT from 4 PM this afternoon to 11 AM PDT Sunday. The Fire Weather Watch IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT. * AFFECTED AREA...Monterey and San Benito County including the Los Padres National Forest Monterey Ranger District, San Benito/Monterey Unit of CalFire and the BLM lands of Monterey and San Benito County. * THUNDERSTORMS...Thunderstorms are currently over San Luis Obispo county and will move into the Central Valley though a few cells could impact southern Monterey County this afternoon. More thunderstorms are forecast to develop this evening and overnight. Any storms that develop will likely product abundant lightning over receptive fuel beds due to the current heat wave. The storms may be a mix of wet and dry but the speed and amount of lightning will likely produce new fire starts. * WIND...Light wind except for breezy onshore winds in the afternoon near the coast. Locally gusty winds possible near any thunderstorms. * HUMIDITY...Minimum humidity mid 10s to mid 20s percent across the higher elevations and interior & 30 to 50 percent nearshore and lower elevation for today. Recoveries Saturday night in the 30s to 50s across the interior and 60s to 90s alongshore. * IMPACTS...Increase in wildfire starts in proximity to thunderstorms due to lightning. Fires may spread rapidly due to dry fuels and, if nearshore, breezy onshore winds. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now...or will shortly. A combination of strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. && $$ CAZ006-505>513-529-160500- /O.UPG.KMTR.FW.A.0001.200816T0600Z-200817T0600Z/ /O.NEW.KMTR.FW.W.0002.200816T0600Z-200816T1800Z/ San Francisco- Coastal North Bay Including Point Reyes National Seashore- North Bay Interior Valleys-North Bay Mountains- San Francisco Bay Shoreline-San Francisco Peninsula Coast- East Bay Interior Valleys-East Bay Hills and the Diablo Range- Santa Cruz Mountains-Santa Clara Valley Including San Jose- Northern Monterey Bay- 1027 AM PDT Sat Aug 15 2020 ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 PM THIS EVENING TO 11 AM PDT SUNDAY for the entire Bay Area due to lightning that could cause new fire starts...
