INLAND PENDER...NORTHEAST CAPE FEAR RIVER: THE GAUGE AT BURGAW
REACHED 25.58 FEET EARLY ON SEPTEMBER 19TH, EXCEEDING THE CREST FROM
HURRICANE MATTHEW (2016) BY OVER THREE FEET. HUNDREDS OF HOMES WERE
FLOODED AND MANY ROADS WERE CLOSED ACROSS PENDER COUNTY INCLUDING
INTERSTATE 40 AND STATE HIGHWAYS 133 AND 210.

BLADEN...CAPE FEAR RIVER: ACROSS BLADEN COUNTY THE CAPE FEAR RIVER
CRESTED TWO TO SIX FEET HIGHER THAN DURING HURRICANE MATTHEW,
SETTING A NEW RECORD STAGE AT LOCK AND DAM #1. IN BLADEN COUNTY THE
TOWN OF KELLY WAS EVACUATED DUE TO FLOODING. THE BLACK RIVER IN
PENDER COUNTY CRESTED ABOUT ONE FOOT HIGHER AT THE TOWN OF CURRIE
THAN DURING HURRICANE MATTHEW. 

INLAND NEW HANOVER...IMPACTS ARE STILL DEVELOPING. IN DOWNTOWN
WILMINGTON THE HIGHEST STAGE EVER RECORDED OCCURRED DURING
FLORENCE'S STORM SURGE, 8.27 FEET MLLW, BEATING RECORD LEVELS SET
DURING HURRICANES HAZEL (1954) AND MATTHEW (2016). SUBSTANTIAL RIVER
FLOODING DEVELOPED OVER THE NEXT WEEK, CAUSING 1 TO 1.5 FEET OF
WATER TO FLOOD DOWNTOWN STREETS TWICE A DAY DURING HIGH TIDES.	

ROBESON...ON THE LUMBER RIVER IN LUMBERTON NC SEVERE FLOODING
DEVASTATED AREAS THAT WERE FLOODED DURING HURRICANE MATTHEW. A
NINE-MILE PORTION OF INTERSTATE 95 WAS CLOSED NEAR LUMBERTON.

CENTRAL HORRY...IMPACTS ARE STILL DEVELOPING. THE WACCAMAW RIVER AT
CONWAY BROKE ITS HURRICANE MATTHEW RECORD STAGE BY FOUR FEET. MANY
HOMES AND BUSINESSES NEAR THE RIVER WERE DEVASTATED. THE FLOOD WAVE
CONTINUED TO CREATE DEVASTATING FLOODING DOWNSTREAM THROUGH THE TOWN
OF BUCKSPORT. FLOODING IS ALSO ANTICIPATED SOUTHWARD ALONG THE RIVER
TOWARD GEORGETOWN.

THE TORNADO WAS SHOWN LIVE BY A LOCAL TELEVISION STATION AS VIEWED
FROM THEIR SKYCAM. IT CAUSED MINOR DAMAGE TO THE TOPS OF PINE TREES,
BREAKING NUMEROUS LIMBS BEFORE IT CROSSED HIGHWAY 17 MOVING WEST.
ADDITIONAL MINOR TREE DAMAGE OCCURRED ON THE WEST SIDE OF HIGHWAY 17

THE TORNADO BEGAN NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF HIGHWAY 701 AND SPIVEY
WARD DRIVE. ABOUT A DOZEN SMALL TREES AROUND A POND WERE BROKEN OFF
AND BLOWN INTO THE POND, AND A METAL CARPORT WAS LIFTED AND BLOWN
ONTO A DOCK. MINOR DAMAGE OCCURRED TO A FEW MOBILE HOMES ON SPIVEY
WARD DRIVE, INCLUDING PART OF A ROOF WHICH WAS BLOWN 30 YARDS AND
SUSPENDED IN A TREE. THE TORNADO MOVED NORTHEASTWARD CAUSING MINOR
DAMAGE TO THE ROOFS AND FASCIA OF TWO HOMES, BEFORE REACHING ITS
MAXIMUM INTENSITY IN A STAND OF TREES IMMEDIATELY NORTHEAST OF THE
HOMES. APPROXIMATELY 40 PINE TREES UP TO 18 INCHES IN DIAMETER WERE
SNAPPED OFF, AND ABOUT A DOZEN LARGE HARDWOODS WERE BROKEN OR
UPROOTED. THE METAL ROOF OF A WOOD-FRAMED CARPORT WAS ALSO RIPPED
OFF AND BLOWN OVER A BARN. THE TORNADO CAUSED ADDITIONAL MINOR
DAMAGE TO NEARBY TREES AND PEELED A PORTION OF METAL ROOFING OFF OF
A WELDING SHOP AS IT LIFTED. SOME PERIPHERAL DAMAGE OCCURRED TO
TREES AND A WOODEN SHED ON THE WEST SIDE OF HIGHWAY 701. PATH WIDTH
100 YARDS, PATH LENGTH 0.25 MILES, WINDS 105 MPH, NO INJURIES OR
FATALITIES.

NUMBER OF TREES AND POWER LINES, CUTTING ELECTRICITY TO OVER 90
PERCENT OF THE COUNTY. FULL RESTORATION OF ELECTRICAL SERVICE TOOK
OVER TEN DAYS. MANY HOMES AND BUSINESSES SUFFERED DAMAGE TO ROOFS
AND SIDING. SEVERAL GAS STATION METAL AWNINGS WERE DESTROYED. WIND
IMPACTS TO THE COMMUNITY WERE WORSE THAN THOSE SUFFERED DURING
HURRICANES DIANA (1984), FRAN (1996), OR FLOYD (1999).
