Tropical Depression Laura moved across Middle Tennessee bringing numerous showers and thunderstorms on Friday August 28. A few storms became severe and produced several reports of wind damage along with 2 brief tornadoes. .Warren County EF-0 Tornado... Rating: EF-0 Estimated Peak Wind: 65 mph Path Length /statute/: 1.60 miles Path Width /maximum/: 25 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: Aug 28 2020 Start Time: 528 PM CDT Start Location: 2.7 WNW of Viola TN Start Lat/Lon: 35.553355 / -85.903080 End Date: Aug 28 2020 End Time: 531 PM CDT End Location: 2.2 NW of Viola TN End Lat/Lon: 35.565358 / -85.878759 A damage survey by Warren County Emergency Management along with video by nearby residents indicate a brief and weak EF-0 tornado intermittently touched down in extreme southwest Warren County between Morrison and Viola. One barn sustained significant damage on Cecil Laxson Road and several trees were blown down along the roadway and in adjacent orchards. Another small barn was destroyed on Fred Hoover Road with a damage path noted through adjacent corn fields. This is the first tornado in the month of August to occur in Warren County on record. .Putnam County EF-0 Tornado... Rating: EF-0 Estimated Peak Wind: 75 mph Path Length /statute/: 2.38 miles Path Width /maximum/: 50 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: Aug 28 2020 Start Time: 724 PM CDT Start Location: 5.4 S of Baxter TN Start Lat/Lon: 36.075333 / -85.640493 End Date: Aug 28 2020 End Time: 728 PM CDT End Location: 3.9 SSE of Baxter TN End Lat/Lon: 36.101816 / -85.613705 A damage survey by Putnam County Emergency Management along with radar data indicate a brief EF-0 tornado touched down south of Baxter in southern Putnam County. One home on Palmer Lane suffered garage door damage near the start of the path, and a mobile home lost part of its roof on Thomas Twin Oak Road at Palmer Lane. Further to the northeast, a barn was damaged on Moss Road north of Alton Boyd Road. Several trees were snapped and uprooted along the intermittent damage path. This is the first tornado in the month of August to occur in Putnam County on record.
