The first team investigated damage in southern and eastern Pecos County as well as northern Terrell County in Texas. The second survey team investigated damage in rural western Gaines County in Texas and eastern Lea County in New Mexico. .Pecos County Tornado... Rating: EF-1 Estimated Peak Wind: 104 mph Path Length /statute/: 2.25 miles Path Width /maximum/: 125 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: June_02_2023 Start Time: 1:57 PM CDT Start Location: 13 ESE Fort Stockton Start Lat/Lon: 30.87/-102.66 End Date: June_02_2023 End Time: 2:15 PM CDT End Location: 15 ESE Fort Stockton End Lat/Lon: 30.85/-102.63 .Pecos County Severe Wind Damage... Peak Wind /E/: 118 mph Path Length /statute/: Unknown Path Width /maximum/: 860 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: June_02_2023 Start Time: 2:27 PM CDT Start Location: 18 SE Fort Stockton Start Lat/Lon: 30.821/-102.580 End Date: June_02_2023 End Time: 2:27 PM CDT End Location: 18 SE Fort Stockton End Lat/Lon: 30.821/-102.580 Results from this survey indicated that a tornado began near the I- 10 and Hwy 67 junction east of Fort Stockton in Pecos County. Several eyewitnesses were able to record and photograph this tornado from I-10. This area of Pecos County is rural with limited damage indicators, and was only accessible by ATV. One eyewitness reported the tornado began north of I-10 and crossed to the south, but this could not be confirmed by radar and the survey team was only able to find damage south of I-10. The damage that was found included snapped branches and tree trunks, trees uprooted, and a shifted PVC water pipe. Damage indicators show that the tornado began as a EF-0 before growing in width and strengthening to an EF-1 about 5 minutes after it began. The tornado continued in a southeast direction as an EF-1 before dropping to an EF-0 just before lifting around 20 minutes after it began. The storm continued southeastward and crossed FM 2023 about 15 minutes after the tornado lifted. Six powerline poles were were found snapped in half along this road, with the damage all oriented to the west, indicating this was the result of rear-flank downdraft winds. .Terrell County Tornado #1... Rating: EF-Unknown Estimated Peak Wind: Unknown Path Length /statute/: 20.5 miles Path Width /maximum/: Unknown Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: June_02_2023 Start Time: 3:41 PM CDT Start Location: 27.25 WSW Sheffield Start Lat/Lon: 30.629/-102.280 End Date: June_02_2023 End Time: 4:23 PM CDT End Location: 9.75 SW Sheffield End Lat/Lon: 30.589/-101.939 One eyewitness captured a tornado likely in the dissipating stage roughly 10 miles southwest of Sheffield. This was the only report from this tornado likely due to the rural location of it and the path was estimated based on radar data. It is possible the tornado lasted shorter or longer than the estimated time and may have lifted and touched down at multiple points along the path. The survey team was unable to reach the path of the tornado and no damage indicators were found, thus this tornado is classified as an EF-Unknown. .Terrell County Tornado #2... Rating: EF-Unknown Estimated Peak Wind: Unknown Path Length /statute/: 21.2 miles Path Width /maximum/: Unknown Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: June_02_2023 Start Time: 6:45 PM CDT Start Location: 6 SSW Dryden Start Lat/Lon: 29.957/-102.137 End Date: June_02_2023 End Time: 7:34 PM CDT End Location: 24 SE Dryden End Lat/Lon: 29.793/-101.839 A tornado was reported by multiple storm spotters south of Hwy 90 in southern Terrell County. The tornado was able to be photographed and recorded with time stamps which were used in conjunction with radar to estimate the time and path length of the tornado. Due to the remote area that the tornado occurred, the survey team was not able to access any damage indicators and thus the tornado was rated an EF- Unknown. The tornado continued for nearly 45 minutes before crossing the international border into Mexico where it likely continued on. .Gaines County Severe Wind Damage... Peak Wind /E/: 83 mph Path Length /statute/: 3.25 miles Path Width /maximum/: Unknown Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: June_02_2023 Start Time: 1:34 PM CDT Start Location: 18.5 WSW Seminole Start Lat/Lon: 32.673/-102.962 End Date: June_02_2023 End Time: 1:43 PM CDT End Location: 15.6 WSW Seminole End Lat/Lon: 32.692/-102.910 .Gaines County Tornado... Rating: EF-Unknown Estimated Peak Wind: Unknown Path Length /statute/: Unknown Path Width /maximum/: Unknown Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: June_02_2023 Start Time: 1:29 PM CDT Start Location: 21 WSW Seminole Start Lat/Lon: 32.666/-102.996 End Date: June_02_2023 End Time: 1:29 PM CDT End Location: 21 WSW Seminole End Lat/Lon: 32.666/-102.996 Results from this survey showed no apparent damage from the reported tornado in the location supplied by storm chasers and estimated by radar data. Video evidence from storm chasers shows the tornado lasted only 29 seconds before lifting in a rural area with limited damage indicators. Because no damage was found, this tornado has been rated an EF-Unknown and time and location of this tornado was estimated by radar data. After the tornado lifted, the rear-flank downdraft surged, leading to severe winds estimated between 60 and 83 mph. Damage in the area included an unanchored shed that was tipped over and leaning onto a manufactured home along County Road 337, a snapped power pole on County Road 335, and a turned over irrigation system off County Road 331. All of the damage was oriented towards the east/northeast, indicating this damage was caused by rear-flank downdraft winds. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0...Weak......65 to 85 mph EF1...Weak......86 to 110 mph EF2...Strong....111 to 135 mph EF3...Strong....136 to 165 mph EF4...Violent...166 to 200 mph EF5...Violent...>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the events and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$
