Start Location...2 SW Simpsonville in Greenville County SC End Location...3 SE Five Forks in Greenville County SC Date...04/14/2019 Estimated Time...10:03 PM EDT to 10:13 PM EDT Maximum EF-Scale Rating...EF1 Estimated Maximum Wind Speed...100 mph Maximum Path Width...100.0 yards Path Length...6.82 miles Beginning Lat/Lon...34.7121 / -82.2928 Ending Lat/Lon...34.7693 / -82.1956 * Fatalities...0 * Injuries...0 ...Summary... The tornado touched down approximately one-half mile east of W. Georgia Rd. (SC 272) near Brittle Creek Ln., Plum Hill Way, and Frostweed Ct., where homes sustained minor shingle, gutter, and siding damage indicative of EF0 damage with maximum wind speeds of 65 mph. The tornado tracked northeast into new subdivisions off of Barker Rd. where additional EF0 damage to roofs and siding occurred. No damage was observed as the tornado crossed Neely Ferry Rd., but intensified as it crossed Alder Park where concentrated damage occurred. Dozens of large diameter trees were uprooted and large branches and trunks were snapped. One tree fell on a home and a trampoline was lifted hundreds of feet into the park from an adjacent home. Intensity peaked at EF1 with max wind speeds of 100 mph. Little to no damage was observed as the tornado track continued northeast across I-385, but additional EF0 to EF1 damage (max wind speeds of 100 mph) was noted near Richardson St. and Main St. (SC 14) where additional trees were damaged and a garage completely collapsed on top of three vehicles inside. The tornado reached its maximum width of approximately 100 yards from SC 14 to Poinsettia Dr. to E Curtis St. (SC 417) where a large tree was uprooted and fell on a home causing EF1 damage indicative of 95 mph winds. As the tornado track continued northeast paralleling E. Georgia Rd., the intensity decreased and damage became more intermittent with additional minor EF0 damage (65-75 mph max wind speeds) to homes and trees. The tornado strengthened to EF1 intensity (100 mph max wind speeds) one final time near the intersection of Lee Vaughn Rd. (SC 417) and Moorgate Dr. where uplift of a house roof deck occurred resulting in significant loss of roofing material and insulation. Overall, along the entire path hundreds of trees were either uprooted, had severed trunks, or had snapped branches. A few homes sustained significant damage either due to fallen trees or structural loss. The path was determined to be continuous but damage was intermittent and concentrated in only a few locations. Fortunately, no injuries occurred.
