...NWS DAMAGE SURVEY FOR 06/28/18 AND 06/29/18 TORNADOES IN NORMAN 
AND POLK COUNTIES...

.OVERVIEW...Supercells developed over northwest Minnesota on the 
afternoon of June 28th, and produced a brief tornado in northeast 
Norman County. Additional storms developed in western North Dakota 
later that evening, which then organized as an intense Squall Line.  
Bowing sections of this Squall Line accelerated to 60-65 mph as it 
moved across eastern ND and northwest MN during the overnight hours. 
At least three tornadoes formed over portions of Norman and Polk 
Counties, in northwest MN, where strongly rotating updraft areas 
had formed along the QLCS/bowing sections of the Squall Line.

This tornado tracked to the southeast at about 25 mph. One lone  
cottonwood tree was snapped an laying mainly to the north, while 
a nearby wooden power pole was snapped and laying to the east. 
No significant field scarring was noted.

This tornado was likely wrapped in downburst winds and heavy 
rain as it tracked to the east at about 60 mph. Large trees were 
broken down and flung in various directions. Metal roofing was 
torn off of a shed.

This tornado was likely wrapped in downburst winds and heavy 
rain as it tracked nearly due east at about 60-65 mph. Large 
trees were torn down in numerous shelter belts and groves, and  
roofing was torn off of several homes and farm buildings. Most 
notably, nearly 11 miles of twin tower high voltage power lines, 
and over 50 tower sets were snapped, crumpled, or bent along 
the east-west running section of this line. Wooden power poles 
were also snapped at select path crossing sections of various 
N-S running lines.

This tornado was partial wrapped in downburst winds and heavy 
rain as it tracked to the east-northeast at nearly 60 mph. It 
cracked various hardwood and softwood trees at one homestead 
and scattered tree limbs in various directions. After crossing 
U.S. Highway 2 it blew in the large, west facing overhead doors 
of a 40x60 shop building and then blew out the back wall.
