SUBJECT: Change to Flood Stage and Severity Categories on the
Minnesota River at Big Stone Lake

Manual readings on Big Stone Lake are currently taken by the Upper
Minnesota River Watershed District in the original project datum.
In order to align these values with elevations commonly referenced
for property and insurance purposes, the datum used for Big Stone
Lake readings is being changed to NAVD88. This conversion will
result in readings at the new datum being 1.55 feet lower than
values in the current project datum. This results in the need to
lower flood stage and severity categories by a similar value.
Below are the revised flood stage and category levels.

Minnesota River at Big Stone Lake
Previous Minor Stage: 971.5 ft New Minor Stage: 970.0 ft
Previous Moderate Stage: 973.0 ft New Moderate Stage: 971.5 ft
Previous Major Stage: 975.0 ft New Major Stage: 973.5 ft

This change will be effective December 17th, 2024.
