Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Angelo TX
404 AM CST Sat Jan 12 2019

(Today and Tonight)

As of 3 AM, a surface cold front was moving south across West
Central Texas and will clear far southern counties just before
daybreak. Surface high pressure will build in behind the front
through tonight, with a drier and cooler airmass filtering into
the region. Skies will be sunny today, with breezy north winds
and afternoon highs ranging from the upper 40s north, to the mid
and upper 50s over southern sections. Skies will be mostly clear
tonight, with light north winds and overnight lows in the upper
20s and lower 30s.

(Sunday through Friday)

The extended portion of the forecast will feature below normal
temperatures to start the week followed by above average
temperatures by the middle of the week. Predominately dry
conditions are expected through Thursday.

Surface high pressure will build down into the Southern Plains and
north Texas on Sunday. Cold air advection will keep temperatures
in the 40s across most of the area during the afternoon. Overnight
lows will fall into the upper 20s and lower 30s. Highs on Monday
will be a little warmer but still below seasonal normals. By
Tuesday, surface high pressure shifts off to the east of the
region. Low level flow becomes southwesterly resulting in
moderating temperatures as we head into the middle part of the
week. Highs on Wednesday and Thursday will climb into the upper
60s and 70s, well above our mid January seasonal normals.

Ridging aloft will keep dry conditions in place for most of next
week. Looking ahead to next weekend, both the GFS and ECMWF drop a
strong cold front into the area on Saturday. The GFS is warmer and
drier with the frontal passage. The ECMWF, however, is much
colder and wetter. For now will use a model blend for temperatures
and indicate a slight chance of PoPs for Friday night. Expect
changes to this portion of the forecast as we head into next week.
