Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Corpus Christi TX
307 PM CDT Sat Aug 18 2018

.SHORT TERM (Tonight through Sunday Night)...

Persistence. This remains the theme of the short term
forecast...as it has been for several days now. High pressure
holds strong over the area while an upper level trough moves
eastward across the country, but should be held off north of the
area through Sunday night. Marginally higher surface moisture will
push into the coastal bend Sunday, with higher a bit more surface
moisture by Sunday night. Deep layer moisture remains low...thus
will keep a dry forecast. Low temperatures tonight similar to last
night...and tomorrow night...in the mid and upper 70s. High
temperatures tomorrow from the low to mid 90s east to around 105
west. Heat index values should mainly stay between 105 and 109
again...though a brief hop above 109 would be possible if the
moisture comes in a little stronger.

.LONG TERM (Monday through Friday Night)...

Subsidence associated with weak ridging aloft will be enough to
maintain hot and dry conditions on Monday. Meanwhile a trough will
advance eastward from the central plains into the Ohio valley by
Tuesday afternoon. This system will push a weak front into east
Central Texas on Tue which may approach our northeast CWA late in
the day. Moisture pooling along/ahead of the boundary may be
enough to generate slight chance of showers/storms across the VCT
area and gulf waters Tue into Wed. Cannot rule out a brief period
of N winds in VCT Wed AM before swinging back around to the SE by
late Wed aftn. Ridge builds back overhead on Thu resulting in hot
and dry conditions. The ridge axis slides just north of the area
by Saturday allowing weak easterly flow and impulse of tropical
moisture to advect into the coastal areas from the Gulf resulting
in a slight chc showers and thunderstorms. Overall temperatures
will remain slightly above normal through the period.
