932 WGUS66 KLOX 082121 FFALOX URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED Flood Watch National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA 121 PM PST Mon Jan 8 2018 ...FLASH FLOODING POSSIBLE FOR MUCH OF SANTA BARBARA, VENTURA, AND LOS ANGELES COUNTIES... .While the recent burn areas are most threatened and should be emphasized, flash flooding is possible nearly anywhere in Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles Counties. A cold front will interact with a plume of subtropical moisture and will bring a period of widespread moderate to heavy rainfall to the region tonight through Tuesday. Behind the front, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue through Tuesday evening. Rainfall rates between one half and one inch per hour are possible during the peak of the storm. Such rain rates are capable of producing flash flooding. Recent burn areas will be especially vulnerable where dangerous mud and debris flows are possible. The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has expanded the * Flash Flood Watch to include the Ventura County Coastal Valleys. * From 4 PM PST this afternoon through Tuesday evening, especially tonight into Tuesday morning. * Rainfall rates of half inch to one inch per hour are expected. * There is a strong potential for flash flooding and mud and debris flow in and around these burn areas. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Flash flooding and debris flows will be a particular threat in and below the recently burned areas. A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. Southern California residents, in or below the recently burned areas are urged to take the steps necessary to protect their property.
