058 FXUS64 KSJT 122322 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 522 PM CST Sat Jan 12 2019 .AVIATION... /00Z TAFS/ There's a slight chance for some patches of BKN MVFR/IFR CIGs to develop across the forecast area during the 10Z-18Z time-period, but confidence too low to include in the TAFs. Otherwise, VFR conditions expected through 00Z Mon. Winds mostly at or less than 8 KT through 00Z Mon. && .PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 246 PM CST Sat Jan 12 2019/ SHORT TERM... (Tonight and Sunday) Temperatures this afternoon across West Central Texas range from the 40s across much of the Big Country to the low to mid 50s elsewhere. Northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph, will quickly decrease late this afternoon and early this evening. Cloud cover will increase Sunday morning, especially across the Big Country. Overnight lows will be cold, with most locations dropping into the upper 20s to lower 30s. Below normal temperatures are forecast across the area on Sunday, with highs generally in the mid 40s to near 50 degrees. LONG TERM... (Sunday Night through Saturday) Zonal flow to prevail across the Southern Plains through most of the upcoming week. Weal shortwave will zip across South Texas on Tuesday and may bring a few showers, but appears this will mainly be south of West Central Texas. Gradual warming trend occur through the week with highs climbing into the mid and upper 60s for Wednesday-Friday. Bigger changes for next weekend as a deeper trough moves into the area. Very cold air in Alaska will make a southward plunge as this upper trough passes, with the ECMWF showing an arctic cold front plunging through the plains. GFS isn't as cold, but normally doesn't handle this type of cold air very well anyway so will lean towards a colder solution for next weekend. Will drop highs into the 40s for most areas on Saturday with the raw data suggesting it may be even colder. Once the forecast details start to become a little more certain, temperatures may need to be dropped even more. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
