440 FXUS64 KHGX 092340 AFDHGX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX 540 PM CST Sun Dec 9 2018 .AVIATION... MVFR ceilings will be slow to improve tonight, but skies should eventually clear by sunrise. The clearing line is currently draped across Tyler to Waco, with stratus decks slowly lifting and scattering out closer to this boundary as it sags southward. Expect CLL and the northern TAF sites to begin seeing VFR conditions between 03-05Z, with coastal TAF sites closer to 07-09Z. Ceilings will clear from north to south. Otherwise, NW/N winds will continue to weaken overnight and fall to between 5-10 kts by the morning hours. Hathaway && .PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 307 PM CST Sun Dec 9 2018/ DISCUSSION... Clouds are continuing to break in/around Southeast Texas this afternoon, and expect skies to clear out this evening and on into the overnight hours. Weakening winds will assist in the temperature drop tonight, and look for readings possibly at or near freezing before sunrise. It will be staying on the cool side through Tuesday morning (similar near freezing lows possible again tomorrow night/Tuesday morning) followed by gradually warming temperatures into midweek as an onshore flow comes back to the area. Rain chances return to the forecast Wednesday (as moisture levels/precipitable water values begin to rise) and continue into Thursday when the next storm system and associated cold front move across the area. Strong/gusty northwest winds will develop behind the front, and some wind advisories might be needed. Cooler and drier weather can be expected at the end of the week and into the first half of next weekend after this system moves off to the east. 42 MARINE... N/NW winds of 15 to 20 kts continue over the gulf waters. Wave heights have decreased today, down to 3 to 5 feet. Will continue the caution statement for the 20-60 NM waters and drop caution wording elsewhere for tonight. We are near low tide in the bays with water levels running -1 to -1.5 feet relative to MLLW, so the low water advisory continues into the early evening hours for the bays. Onshore winds will return during the day on Tuesday and will strengthen on Tuesday night. A cold front is forecast to move across the coastal waters Thursday afternoon with strong NW winds developing behind it and producing SCA conditions and possibly gusts over Gale force offshore. 33 && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
