Coastal Hazard Message
National Weather Service Corpus Christi TX
426 AM CDT Mon Oct 8 2018

...WORSENING MARINE AND COASTAL CONDITIONS TODAY...

.Long period swell originating from Tropical Storm Michael will
begin to enter the coastal waters today. The combination of high
swell and generally moderate onshore flow will result in a high
rip current risk today along Gulf-facing beaches of the Middle
Texas Coast. The combination of swell and slightly greater
astronomical tides will contribute to minor coastal flooding
generally south of Port Aransas during the time of high tide this
afternoon.

...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING...
...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO
7 PM CDT THIS EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi has issued a
Coastal Flood Advisory, which is in effect from 1 PM this
afternoon to 7 PM CDT this evening. A High Rip Current Risk has
also been issued. This High Rip Current Risk is in effect through
this evening.

* COASTAL FLOODING...Water levels are expected to reach 2 feet
above mean sea level from near Port Aransas southward, mainly
during the time of high tide this afternoon. At Port Aransas,
high tide is expected to occur around 325 PM CDT this afternoon.
Water will likely reach the dunes at Padre and Mustang Islands.

* TIMING...Beach hazards are expected to occur through this afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Driving conditions may be adversely impacted. Items
along the beach may need to be removed due to the incoming wave
runup. Some beach access roads may become impassible. Strong rip
currents are expected along gulf-facing beaches, especially near
piers and jetties. These rip currents can become life-
threatening to anyone entering the surf.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.
