Tropical Weather Discussion
National Weather Service Tiyan GU
434 AM ChST Wed Jan 24 2024

Tropical Weather Discussion for the Western North Pacific between
the Equator and 25N from 130E to 180. The following information is
based on recent satellite imagery/data, weather observations, radar,
and meteorological analysis.

...SIGNIFICANT/SPECIAL FEATURES...

OTHER SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENTS...

NEAR EQUATORIAL TROUGH...
The near-equatorial trough curves from EQ1302 through a disturbance
centered near 3N150E to end at EQ152E. Scattered showers and a few
thunderstorms are over a large area from just southwest of Chuuk
Lagoon across southeast Palau and southeast Yap State.

TRADE-WIND TROUGHS...
A weak trade-wind trough just southeast of Majuro runs from 6N173E
to EQ175 and is causing only spotty showers.

OTHER SYSTEMS...
A shear line cuts from 25N150E to 16N130E. Low to mid-level clouds
and patchy showers are found along and north of this line to beyond
25N.

A moist upper-level flow from the south and southeast is causing
some high level cloudiness over the Mariana Islands between 10N
and 20N from 140E to 150E.

...DISCUSSION...
The near-equatorial trough along with a pattern of upper-level
divergence will continue to cause patchy showers over Western
Micronesia. Models indicate the disturbance near 3N150E will drift
very slowly toward the west-northwest.

The trade-wind trough near Majuro is nearly stationary but some
some showers will spread west toward Kosrae.

The shear line has slowed a bit but is expected to drift toward
the Marianas during the coming days and could yet intensify
further later in the week.
