Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Springfield MO
1140 PM CDT Sun Sep 5 2021

.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Monday)
Issued at 215 PM CDT Sun Sep 5 2021

An upper level trough is moving off to the east of the area as
surface high pressure is moving across the region this afternoon.
A slightly cooler air mass is in place as highs in the upper 70s
to the middle 80s are expected this afternoon. Lows tonight will
drop into the upper 50s to the lower 60s.

The surface high pressure will start to move off to the east on
Monday allowing southerly winds to return to the region. Highs on
Monday are expected to warm into the middle to upper 80s under
plenty of sunshine.

.LONG TERM...(Monday Night through Sunday)
Issued at 215 PM CDT Sun Sep 5 2021

An upper level trough will move across the plains on Tuesday then
across the area Tuesday night. A weak cold front will move south
through the area Tuesday evening ahead of the trough. A warmer
air mass will remain in place ahead of the front as highs in the
upper 80s to lower 90s occur on Tuesday. A dry air mass will be
in place along with a decent cap, which will result in the
frontal passage being dry as it moves through the area.

A slightly cooler air mass will move over the area on Wednesday
and Thursday as highs in the lower to middle 80s are generally
expected. Lows Wednesday night will fall into the middle 50s to
the lower 60s, and some lower 50 readings are not out of the
questions across parts of the eastern Ozarks.

The upper level ridge will build back towards the region Friday
into next weekend. Highs in the middle 80s to the lower 90s are
expected on Friday with highs in the upper 80s to middle 90s
expected next weekend.

Not expecting much in the way of rain this week. A system may move
through the region during the early/middle of the following week
and may bring the next rain chances to the region. Still a lot of
questions with this system being over a week away.
