323 FXUS64 KCRP 211144 AAA AFDCRP Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED National Weather Service Corpus Christi TX 644 AM CDT Sat Jul 21 2018 .DISCUSSION... Updated for 12z aviation. && .AVIATION... MVFR conditions at ALI for vsbys and LRD for ceilings will continue for another hour or two. IFR/MVFR conditions at VCT will persist through 13z as well. VFR conditions will return by mid morning at all terminals. Winds will increase by midday with some gusts between 18 and 22 knots during the afternoon at ALI/CRP/VCT but will remain elevated at LRD through the evening. Some sporadic MVFR cigs/vsbys may occur late in the period at ALI/VCT again and have included tempo groups to account for this. && .PREVIOUS DISCUSSION... /Issued 357 AM CDT Sat Jul 21 2018/ SHORT TERM (Today through Sunday)... A persistent weather pattern will continue across South Texas this weekend. Upper level ridge remains anchored across the Four Corners region southeastward across the state. This will result in little relief from the heat and humidity during the short term. Temperatures today will range from 106-107 degrees near the international border to around 100 degrees at Victoria. Across the Coastal Plains, highs in the middle to upper 90s can be expected. For the southern Coastal Bend, heat index values will be the highest...between 110 and 114 degrees this afternoon. A heat advisory was issued for inland and coastal Nueces and Kleberg counties. For the remainder of the area, a special weather statement will be issued for heat index values between 105 and 109 degrees. Similar conditions are expected on Sunday. Highs may actually be a degree or two warmer in most locations. Dangerous heat index values will occur again tomorrow afternoon. LONG TERM (Sunday Night Through Friday)... The mid-level ridge begins to retrograde back to the northwest allowing for a mid-level trough of low pressure to slide south across the eastern US Monday into the northeastern Gulf. As this trough slides south, surface low pressure across the Ohio Valley will also be able to slide south into the SE US bringing its associated weak frontal boundary. Moisture is expected to increase with the trough/frontal boundary toward the mid-to-late week across the Gulf and the Coastal Plains/Victoria Crossroads. The capping remains rather strong which may inhibit rain activity, but it is slightly weaker with H85 temps around 18-20C across the coastal region so will continue a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms. Overall, temperatures will still run hot with mid to upper 90s across the coastal region to near 110 toward the Rio Grande Plains early in the week. Temperatures should cool a few degrees for the latter half of the week due to the increase in moisture. Heat index values of 105-109F are expected for much of the area early in the week, but will become more focused to the southern Coastal Bend and Brush Country for the latter half of the week. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
