A news item posted last year denoted some necessary changes to IEM Data Archival due to Iowa State University cloud storage changes. One of the items mentioned was the hourly zip file of individual MRMS grib2 files found at mrms.agron.iastate.edu. The long term archive of these files is no longer that useful to the community as the same individual files are freely found on various cloud storage systems. Additionally, these files may become scientifically obsolete as upcoming projects may reprocess the entire modern RADAR era with present MRMS algorithms. For example, a good chunk of the IEM archive contains data from previous releases of the MRMS software, which had various bugs.

So the plan is to remove much of the archive soon, but retain a 30 day rolling archive for those looking for a quick source of files or which to have disaster recovery options.

Note: This change goes not impact any of the other MRMS based archives the IEM processes and various services.
