Welcome to the IEM Local Storm Report (LSR) App! The old version of this app is still available for use, but this new version is the way forward. It is built using modern web technologies and is designed to be mobile friendly.

Please provide feedback on this app. It is a work in progress and your input is valuable.

This app displays National Weather Service (NWS) Local Storm Reports (LSR)s for a given time period of your choice. Additionally, NWS Storm Based Warnings (SBW) are also displayed for events Issued between the start and end time of your choice.

Web Services

This app uses to main GeoJSON web services to provide the data displayed here. LSR and SBW. You are welcome to use these services in your own applications.

URL Parameters

You can use the following URL parameters to customize your experience:

• by: Filter by either "wfo" (default) or "state".
• wfo: Comma-separated list of WFOs to filter by.
• state: Comma-separated list of states to filter by.
• seconds: Puts the app into an auto-refreshing mode that loads the previous number of seconds worth of LSRs and warnings issued.
• settings: This is crude sequence of 0 (off) and 1 (on) values that control the following settings:
  1. NEXRAD Reflectivity Visibility
  2. Local Storm Reports Visibility
  3. Storm Based Warnings Visibility
  4. Is the app in real-time / auto refreshing mode
  5. States Layer Visibility
  6. Counties Layer Visibility
  7. LSR Label Mode (Icons [0] vs Magnitude [1])

• 2025-06-06: Fixed a bug with sorting of timestamp values in the LSR/SBW tables.
• 2025-05-27: Fixed a bug where the LSR type filter would remove all LSRs.
• 2025-05-22: Added a scale control for Storm Based Warnings polygon outline width. You can find this within the Settings tab.
• 2025-05-22: Changed SBW polygon plotting priority to show Tornado then Severe Thunderstorm Warnings then others.
