Issued at 218 PM CDT Wed Sep 24 2025 For tonight and Thursday, an upper ridge over the Central and Southern Rockies will build into the region. Weak surface high pressure and light and variable winds tonight under clear skies. Lows to range from the mid 40s western Sandhills, to the upper 40s to low 50s central and east. On Thursday, surface low pressure develops along the lee of the Rockies, bringing a light southwest wind to the area. Clear skies, with weak warm air advection. Issued at 218 PM CDT Wed Sep 24 2025 A shortwave trough will move into the Northern Plains on Friday. This will drive a cold front into western South Dakota. Warming ahead of the front with highs from the low to mid 80s. Afternoon humidity will fall to as low as 20 percent across the northwest Sandhills with winds turning to the west at 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon for just a limited potential for elevated fire weather conditions Friday afternoon. A weak cold frontal passage Friday night. Highs Saturday to remain slightly above normal in the upper 70s to near 80. An upper trough west of the Four Corners Saturday night will lift over the Central and Southern Rockies on Sunday. This will bring a return of southerly winds, with winds on Sunday becoming breezy, along with higher dewpoints in the upper 50s to near 60. A slight chance for showers and a few thunderstorms Sunday afternoon into Sunday night, mainly across the west. The axis of this upper trough is forecast to move across the area Monday night into Tuesday. The ECMWF is much less amplified wrt the trough axis than the GFS, so confidence on the development of showers or thunderstorms is low. The current forecast has a slight chance Monday night.
