Highs this afternoon will be in the upper 80s to mid 90s and could challenge daily records in some locations. Heat indices exceeding the century mark are most likely across the southeastern portion of the Keystone state including the Harrisburg, Reading, Allentown, and Philadelphia metro areas. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are likely this afternoon and may be accompanied by localized downpours and strong gusty winds. There is an elevated risk of excessive rainfall across the eastern portion of the Commonwealth on Thursday with locally significant flooding impacts possible. The heat and humidity will retreat southward on Thursday and will eventually be replaced by refreshingly cooler, less humid, and rain free weather conditions to begin the month of August. $$ MRS
