971 FXUS64 KHGX 280517 AFDHGX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX 1117 PM CST Sat Jan 27 2024 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Sunday Night) Issued at 210 PM CST Sat Jan 27 2024 Tranquil weather is expected for the next several days. Cool and dry conditions will prevail throughout the weekend as CAA continues and high pressure dominates the local weather pattern. The rest of today will remain breezy with north northwest winds at around 10 to 15 mph and gusts of 20 to 25 mph, but winds will decrease to 5 to 10 mph overnight as the high pressure moves into general area. In response to the CAA, temperatures tonight will be 10 to 15 degrees cooler than last night. By early Sunday morning, the temperatures (lows) are expected to be in the mid to upper 30s for areas north of I-10, and the upper 30s to low 40s for areas near and south of I-10 including the coasts. A beautiful day is on tap for Sunday with skies becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon, highs ranging in the upper 50s to low 60s areawide, and northerly winds between 5 to 10 mph. Another cold night is expected Sunday night, with lows expected to be in the mid to upper 30s for most inland portions and in the low 40s along the coasts. Although widespread freezing temperatures are not expected for tonight or Sunday night, lows will be a few degrees above freezing. Therefore, it is recommended to practice cold weather safety if you plan to work or spend time outdoors: Make sure to have several warm layers on, bring pets indoors, and protect sensitive plants. Cotto (24) && .LONG TERM... (Monday through next Friday) Issued at 210 PM CST Sat Jan 27 2024 There really is not much to say about the long term. High pressure will dominate the pattern, yielding to a dry and sunny week with pleasantly cool to mild temperatures. The eastward moving high will result in a modest warming trend as the week progresses. Monday's highs are expected to be in the low/mid 60s with lows in the upper 30s to mid 40s. By the middle to later part of the week, highs are expected to be in the 65-70 degree range with lows in the mid 40s to low 50s. Rain chances could return as early as Friday. But for now, we are holding the rain off until Friday night or Saturday (which is mostly beyond the scope of the current forecast). Enjoy this well deserved stretch of nice weather!
