940 FXUS65 KPIH 301931 AFDPIH Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pocatello ID 131 PM MDT Mon Oct 30 2023 .SHORT TERM...THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT... Longwave high pressure will maintain dominant synoptic control of our weather over the next several days, with absolutely no concerns for anything impactful. High-level clouds may start to increase Tuesday into Wednesday, and temperatures will gradually warm, topping out in the upper 30s to mid-40s for most today, then mid-40s to lower 50s for most Tuesday. If you haven't been a fan of the recent cold and snow...at least we're nudging in a warmer direction for a bit! 01 .LONG TERM...WEDNESDAY THROUGH NEXT MONDAY... Remain under the influence of the upper level ridge Wednesday and Wednesday night with mild conditions continuing with highs in the 50s for the most part with some 40s in the mountains and lows in the 20s and 30s. Pattern change will come Thursday as first Pacific wave breaks down ridge and brings in some showers to the central mountains Wednesday night and spreads east over all of southeast Idaho Thursday. Will set up a series of waves in generally zonal flow through next Monday with the model blends having at least a chance of precipitation Thursday through Monday. The day with the best chance to be dry at this point appears to be Saturday but very low confidence in model timing in a zonal flow pattern that far out. Temperatures will be mild and generally above normal all the way through the long term with no cold outbreaks. Snow levels should stay high generally in the 8 to 9 thousand foot range possibly dropping as low as 7 thousand feet at times. Highs in the long term remaining in the 50s low elevation and mainly 40s mountains with lows in the 20s to 30s mountains and 30s to 40s low elevations. Entering the more zonal flow aloft pattern expect winds to increase somewhat with southwesterly winds in the 10 to 20 mph sustained speed level at times with gusts in the 20s. GK && .AVIATION... No changes through Tuesday with light winds and clear skies to scattered high level cirrus now through the day on Tuesday. GK && .PIH WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... None. && $$
