Issued at 138 PM CDT Mon Oct 9 2023 Wind speeds around 10 miles per hour with gusting winds up to 15 miles per hour will persist in the MidSouth through the evening. A weak cold front is expected to come through and result in slightly cooler air tonight with lows starting in the upper 40s. Temperatures will continue to warm throughout the week with highs ranging in the upper 70s to lower 80s. By the end of the week, another cold front will bring in rain showers and perhaps a thunderstorm throughout the MidSouth. Following the cold front, cooler temperatures and drier air conditions are expected into the weekend. && .DISCUSSION... (This evening through next Sunday) Issued at 138 PM CDT Mon Oct 9 2023 Upper-level water vapor imagery shows an upper level low centered over Quebec with a broad upper trough axis digging south and encompassing the east CONUS. Wind speeds around 10kts with gusting winds up to 15kts will persist through the MidSouth this evening. A weak cold front in association with a shortwave trough will come through tonight and bring in slightly cooler temperatures for the northern half of the forecast area. Lows for tonight are expected to start in the upper 40s. Temperatures will continue to increase throughout the week as an upper level ridge builds within the region. Highs are anticipated to warm into the upper 80s by midweek. A warm front will lift through the region starting Tuesday and bring in some moisture throughout. However, rain showers in association with the front stay mostly to the north of the forecast area. As the aforementioned front lifts, another warm front will lift through the Gulf of Mexico and introduce some rain showers in the southeast CONUS. Model guidance shows showers ahead of the front remaining south of the forecast area. Pops were still added into north MS in order to show slight chances of rain entering the forecast area. On Friday, another cold front is expected to move across the region and bring in the greatest chance for rain showers area wide. Cooler temperatures and drier air conditions will follow into the weekend with highs dropping 10-15 degrees with readings in the 60s. && .AVIATION... Winds look to have a brief westerly period tomorrow afternoon before becoming northeasterly again behind a reinforcing cold front but should remain light.
