287 FXUS64 KHGX 030450 AFDHGX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX 1150 PM CDT Wed Aug 2 2023 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Thursday Night) Issued at 217 PM CDT Wed Aug 2 2023 ...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING AND HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT... Hot and dry conditions will continue for the rest of today into Thursday as the strong mid to upper level ridging persists across Southeast Texas. For the rest of today, high temperatures will peak between 101-106 degrees for areas north of I-10, between 98 to 103 degrees for areas south of I-10, and between 94 to 96 degrees for the immediate coasts and Barrier Islands. A few locations may tie or surpass previous records for Maximum Temperatures; more on that later this afternoon. For this reason, the Excessive Heat Warning and Heat Advisory will continue in effect through 9 PM tonight. It will remain warm and humid tonight with lows in the upper 70s to low 80s areawide. For Thursday, similar conditions are to be expected with high temperatures a degree or two less in some locations. Regardless, we are expected for many to experience highs peaking in the low 100s for much of the inland portions and in the mid to upper 90s along the coasts. Heat indices will also be between 108 and 112 degrees in the afternoon. Thus, the Heat Advisory will remain in effect for all of Southeast Texas through at least Thursday night. Conditions will be a little breezy mid afternoon and evening as the pressure gradient tightens over the region. These are very dangerous conditions...Make sure to practice heat safety. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. 24 && .LONG TERM... (Friday through next Tuesday) Issued at 217 PM CDT Wed Aug 2 2023 The overall synoptic pattern remains relatively unchanged through the long-term period. SE TX remains trapped under a mid to upper level ridge, resulting in daytime temperatures in the upper 90s to around 105F through early next week. Additionally, dew point values will range from the mid 60s to upper 70s, resulting in elevated heat indices. Heat Index values are projected to reach advisory levels each day (greater than 108F), and may potentially reach to around 113F, necessitating an Excessive Heat Warning. In any case, continue to practice heat safety by wearing light and loose fitting clothing, taking frequent breaks when working outside, and look before you lock! With the ridge showing little deviation in its position, not expecting much in the way of precipitation chances. The best shot at rain (20-30% chance) will be later in the weekend into early next week as a few shortwaves migrate around the eastern periphery of the ridge, and move through SE TX. PWAT values around late weekend into Monday remain around 1.5" with much drier air in the mid-levels. Tuesday's chance appears to be the best shot out of the aforementioned days as PWAT values increase to around 2.0" and RH values in the H7 layer increase to above 70% for much of the area. These chances would be contingent on whether or not upward motion can break through a pretty stout cap (this would help if the ridge moved more westward). Adams && .AVIATION... (06Z TAF Issuance) Issued at 1106 PM CDT Wed Aug 2 2023 VFR conditions should prevail throughout the TAF period. Patchy fog may develop overnight at KLBX, clearing after sunrise on Thursday as winds become southwesterly. Winds strengthen and become southeasterly Thursday afternoon. Rain chances remain slim. 03 && .MARINE... Issued at 217 PM CDT Wed Aug 2 2023 Light to moderate onshore winds with 1 to 3 foot seas should prevail through the next several days. Small craft may need to exercise caution during the overnight periods when the winds could increase to around 15 knots.
