Favorable shear and the warm front interacting with the coastal interface resulted in a favorable environment for rotating updrafts. Additionally, merging cells in the back building regime favored periods of increased vorticity and ascent. Two short-lived tornadoes were able to impact portions of Broward county. The stronger of the two with the slightly longer track occurred just south of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood airport, with the other touching down west of Interstate 95 near Sheridan road. .Sheridan Road... The tornado caused tree damage along Old Griffin road before crossing into a mobile home community east of Interstate 95. Metal siding roof damage was noted throughout the community. The EFO was rated on the high-end of the scale based on this damage.
