602 FXUS64 KLUB 121114 AFDLUB Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lubbock TX 614 AM CDT Sun Mar 12 2023 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (Today and tonight) Issued at 335 AM CDT Sun Mar 12 2023 Easterly winds are presently seen across the area as a cold front has moved trough and is now located well to the south. Lows tonight are expected in the mid 30s in the northwest to the mid 40s off the Caprock. Easterlies will persist though today, keeping highs much cooler than yesterday in the upper 50s to low 60s. An upper shortwave in combination with weak moisture advection in the mid and low levels will bring increasing clouds and a slight chance of showers this evening. Anything would be quite short-lived and most likely north of Lubbock. Given the more widespread cloud cover and winds remaining around 10 mph, Monday morning lows have slightly increased from the previous forecast, however will remain chilly in the mid 30s. While skies will clear on Monday, highs will be even cooler, remaining in the 50s over much of the area. && .LONG TERM... (Monday through Saturday) Issued at 335 AM CDT Sun Mar 12 2023 Zonal flow aloft will pivot gradually to slightly northwest throughout the day tomorrow. Cooler midlevel temperatures and cloud cover will cool day time highs further from todays values, mostly in the mid 50's across our area. A progressive shortwave trough in northeast New Mexico late Monday night will pass overhead toward North Texas on Tuesday. Moisture return out ahead of the shortwave will be meagher, but some light rain is expected with totals ranging from a trace to five hundreths at best. Southeast surface winds on Monday will veer more southwesterly Tuesday and Wednesday as progressive upper level ridging shifts east across our region. H50 heights begin to fall once again out ahead of a trough that moves into eastern New Mexico late Wednesday night. NBM POPs seem to be appropriately low given the uncerainty in the tilt of the trough, moisture return out ahead of the system and the potential for a dry slot to position over our area. The surface cold front that begins to push south through our area Thursday evening will cool temperatures once again for the end of the week and into the weekend, when highs will be 10-15 degrees below normal with light snow chances Saturday night as lows drop into the mid to upper 20s by early Sunday morning. && .AVIATION...
