635 ACUS01 KWNS 050510 SWODY1 SPC AC 050508 Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 1108 PM CST Wed Jan 04 2023 Valid 051200Z - 061200Z ...NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST... ...SUMMARY... Severe thunderstorms are not expected today. ...Synopsis... An upper trough along the West Coast will move eastward across the Great Basin, with a 70+ kt midlevel jet pushing across southern CA, AZ, and NM. Meanwhile, an upper low will move slowly eastward across the Great Lakes, with a broad area of cyclonic flow aloft remaining over much of the eastern CONUS. Upper 60s dewpoints will exist during the day ahead of a cold front over FL, and this boundary will clear the state by 12Z Friday. Daytime heating may yield scattered showers and thunderstorms along the front, but lack of large-scale support, poor lapse rates and weak shear below 500 mb should result in weak storms. To the west, cold air aloft along the West Coast may yield embedded convection over parts of CA, from central parts of the coastline eastward toward the Sierra. Forecast soundings indicate little SBCAPE will be present owing to cool surface temperatures, and thus severe weather is not expected. ..Jewell/Wendt.. 01/05/2023 $$
