A surface trough within the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is being enhanced by a Tropical Upper Tropospheric Trough (TUTT) located to the north of the Marshall Islands. Current model and satellite analysis show the possibility of locally heavy shower and winds of 20 to 25 knots with gusts to 35 knots over the waters, and 20 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph possible over the atolls of the Marshall Islands today, especially near heavier showers. Similar synoptic setups have created similar conditions in the past. Locally heavy showers and gusty winds around 35 knots will create choppy seas that will be hazardous to small craft and make navigation difficult even for larger vessels. Gusty winds over land can blow around loose and unsecured objects such as canopies, which could damage or injuries to people hit by blown objects. Mariners and local residents should pay attention to local weather conditions and listen for the latest information from your local weather service office and emergency officials.
