Last band of snow lingering across far south central South Dakota is expected to shift south and east of the forecast area early this morning. Steep low level lapse rates and tight pressure gradient will bring gusty northwest winds today. Chilly night tonight with surface high parked over the area; lows in the single digits. Progressive zonal flow is set for the remainder of the week into early next week. Wednesday/Thursday will feature a flat ridge with temperatures warming back up. Brisk south winds will increase Wednesday with pressure falls/tight pressure gradient behind departing surface high. Robust low level warm advection will boost temperatures into the 40/50s on Thursday. Upper trof impacts the Northern Plains Friday with best lift sliding north of the forecast area. May see some light snow north of I-90, with NBM placing 30-50% probability of >1" of snow along the North Dakota border. Tricky temperature forecast on Friday as cold front slips southward; located near the Black Hills mid day.
